Suzhou-based Chinese studio Genigods Lab has announced GeniGods: Nezha, a new single player action RPG with clear and obvious God of War inspirations.
According to the press release – and a behind closed doors presentation, attended by Push Square – the game will be built in Unreal Engine 5 and will be “optimised for PlayStation platforms in collaboration with Sony”.
Specifically, co-founders Erdi Yao and Young Lui told us as part of a roundtable interview that a playable PS5 Pro build has already been submitted to PlayStation China, and the title is taking full advantage of all the format’s bells-and-whistles – including the DualSense, and its tactile flourishes.

It’ll also launch on PC.
GeniGods: Nezha is steeped in Chinese mythology, as you assume the role of the titular deity, represented here as a hardened female warrior.
The blurb explains:
“In this epic journey, you will evolve from a celestial artifact into the first human, a woman crafted from water and clay, before eventually being reborn as the legendary Nezha. Your journey is shared by legendary heroes: Yi, the sun-feller, and Yu, the flood-tamer. Beside you also dwells the Heart of Sacred Water – Nüwa’s sentient gift that grows with you, serving as your vital companion to solve ancient puzzles, conquer the toughest trials and learn the dark truth behind this new world.”
It’s important to stress outright that this is not a Soulslike: the combat is fast and fluid, and according to the studio, the closest point of comparison is God of War 3.
This is particularly evident from the larger-than-life boss battles, which will flow “seamlessly between heaven and earth”, according to the developer.
In pursuit of a kind of ancient Chinese alternative to the Infinity Stones, you’ll be able to tackle bosses in any order you like, a la Mega Man. The game will be structured in such a way where you’ll spend downtime in a hub-like area, completing side-missions and upgrading your abilities.
And, just to be clear, while Genigods Lab’s most famous game is a mobile My Hero Academia tie-in for Sony’s Crunchyroll, this will be a proper, traditional single player adventure with no gacha mechanics or live service elements. The team estimates it’ll take about 25 hours to complete, and around 50 hours to Platinum.
Which brings us perhaps to the kicker: with two years of development already under its belt, the team’s not expecting this effort to release until 2028. That means, while it’s planning for PS5 alongside PC right now, it could ultimately end up being a PS6 game as well.
Still, with Sony’s involvement and the God of War influences on display, this will definitely be one to keep an eye on.

China are on fire these days (assuming all these games play as good as they look)
PlayStation 5 getting all the Chinese consoles exclusive action games.
Is it me, or are all these Chinese games samey AF?
@AhmadSumadi Was thinking the same, there all mythical fantasy hack n slash games.
@AhmadSumadi I agree. I can’t say I’m excited about a single one of these games. They all seem pretty similar to something else that already exists, but missing something intangible at the same time.
This doesn't look anything like God of War 3...
UE5 based third person action game from unknown Chinese developer, set in mythological ancient China:
„Promising“
@AhmadSumadi Yep, they're all blending into one for me. I'll be honest and say I haven't played any of them, but they all have such a similar aesthetic and similar gameplay.
They're slapping Nezha on everything these days. Went to check out what the fuss over those hideously animated Nezha movies was about. Not my cup of tea. Legend of Hei 1&2 and Nobody which all came out recently... amazing Chinese animation.
Unreal Engine 5 and optimised cannot exist within the same sentence.
Combat looks good
Ne Zha is on hot trend after last year CG movie made $2.2 Billion in the box office.
I honestly didn't know much about Ne Zha legend. But i would play this game to "learn" about it because it looks cool especially with the Mega Man approach.
But how many console exclusives Sony got from Chinese devs?! It feels as if Sony took it seriously after Square president said they don't want to make exclusives with Sony again and Sony like okay then we gotta grab Chinese devs.
I'm not seeing any god of war inspirations. What I am seeing is wukong and wuchang inspirations from this trailer. If the camera was over the shoulder like the recent god of war games I'd say you have a point but this just looks like another nioh,wukong,wuchang,wo long and any other half decent souls type arpgs. I love these kind of games and I haven't played a decent one since khazan which I still need to replace after my puppy boz ate it..little f*cker.
@AhmadSumadi while western developers churn out cod and fifa every year along with countless remasters with little to no innovation.
Doesn't remind me of GOW at all. Looks solid, but very similar to everything else coming out of China.
Doesn’t look anything like any god of war game.
It actually looks far more like Stellar Blade from combat, and in some Elden ring kind of world.
Looks great. Really don’t understand the “it looks the same” comments this looks nothing like Wuxia
Another Ue5 game that looks like every other Ue5 game, yay =]
For a second, I thought this was from China Hero Project lol looks very promising.
@Northern_munkey Just finished Khazan last night. Last boss did my head in
@SuperSilverback
Did you get all 3 stages?
By the time I fought him, I had been on quite the roll. Beating most of the bosses (including side mission) in the last 3rd of the game, 1st or 2nd go - except the dragon who gave me a bit of a challenge.
There I was thinking I had really 'clicked' with the combat, only for the last boss to thoroughly crush me, a good few times.
@Rich33 yeah I got all 3 stages. I was like ah this will be 2 stages....then a 3rd appeared and I was half health and no healing items left. Destroyed. Then proceeded to be destroyed several more runs. Then on my last I just managed to breeze through it, everything just went right.
The Dragon was just not a fun fight, just a long, stamina/soul destroying fight
@SuperSilverback I didn't get the chance 🤣
@SuperSilverback loved Khazan but that final boss, just i dunno felt really awkward the longer the fight went on, great game though super underrated got medicore reviews overall,
@AhmadSumadi they indeed look same, mostly generic. As much as they have huge budget and workpiece, they still rely mainly on copying from other titles. They lack originality. Sales wise some of them sell well only because of high sales in China obviously. But outside of China, barely anyone awaits these games.
On the other hand, games are like anything else, if they are made in China, you can be pretty sure they are cheaper to make. That’s why China Project exists. Unfortunately, most of these are crap.
@themightyant Yeah i don't get it either.
Chinese devs are cooking these days. Eventually they will take a huge share of the gaming market especially if western devs stay ideologically captured (don’t @ me)
@RoomWithaMoose I thought that but they referenced it constantly, so I think they just meant the pace of it.
@SuperSilverback
A real underrated gem of last year, but that last fight was... a lot.
@Northern_munkey
Hope u get it finished soon. Digital copies have the advantage of being far more mad puppy proof! Lol
@Rich33 yes they do..at least the little ***** has good taste..
they all starting to look the same now does china only have one genre of games?
@kailun sure just pick two games and ignore all the rest

This looks stunning, and right up my street.
My Pro arrived today, and it looks like it is a good time for me to switch to having PlayStation as my main. I'm leaving the uncertainty of Xbox behind for the certainty of PlayStation.
I've never bought the mid-generation refresh console of the PlayStation before, but with the way things are going, with all that is happening on the Xbox, all their once exclusives arriving on PlayStation, and the rumoured delays for the next consoles for both PlayStation and Xbox (if theirs ever actually happens), it seemed the only sensible option for me.
Cannot wait to play this game on my shiny new console... 😊
@Fiendish-Beaver enjoy your new toy my man!
@RoomWithaMoose No *****! It’s almost like the game is still in development and we didn’t see more than 5 minutes of gameplay
Thank you, @Weebleman. Not in a position to set it up just yet, but am trying to decide what to play on it first. I'm like a big kid right now... 😂
Saw god of war in the title and thought they finally announced the 2d god of war lol
It actually play like final fantasy 16.it look good and interesting. Word up son
@tatsumi yeh why the GOW comparison it’s completely Stellar
@kailun yep. But COD and FIFA are very different games. They’re also franchises. What you say makes no sense as a rebuttal to what I said.Like, I can name 40+ western games released in the last 5 years that are very different. All those Chinese games can stand as sequels to the one before it.
@Fiendish-Beaver Enjoy your new PS5 Pro man!
Combat close to GoW3 = count me in!
Some lovely art design there, but clothes don't maketh the game. Hope gameplay and performance are up to scratch too.
That said, if I don't play another third person action-adventure for the next five years I'd be happy with it.
@MrPeanutbutterz Gameplay wise, what i've read sounds promising like dual stance, air combo, and parry. Here's the tidbits from Gematsu:
https://www.gematsu.com/2026/01/chinese-mythology-action-rpg-genigods-nezha-announced-for-ps5-pc
After Black Myth: Wukong, there was so much online talk about wanting to continue the series with a Black Myth: Nezha game. Looks like these guys got their foot in the door first.
@get2sammyb @Mac_steel Eh, we'll see. It looks way more like DMC to me. With a Souls-like camera and boss. And Black Myth-esque setting.
Thank you, @get2sammyb. I'm sure I will...
@PuppetMaster Okay that sounds decent. Hopefully they can pull it off.
@AhmadSumadi yes, and i'll never tire of them
That.. does not look good.
